As many REALTOR® members are already aware, the National Association of REALTORS® is requiring all REALTOR® members to take their Code of Ethics training every two years. You must fuflill the ethics requirement every two years or risk suspension of service or inactivation. These classes can be completed online or in live courses offered by CDAR.

For online courses, you can complete them in the following locations:

 • National Association of REALTORS®https://www.nar.realtor/about-nar/governing-documents/code-of-ethics/code-of-ethics-training
(Scroll down and choose the "Existing Member" training option)

   • NAR Center for REALTOR® Development: LearningLibrary.com/COE
(Scroll down and choose the free Ethics course option)

Please note you may need to register for these options by creating your NAR account. You will need your NAR ID number for registering. If you do not know your NAR ID number, click the link here and follow the instructions, or contact NAR directly at 800-874-6500.

A few tips to consider...

The cycle is now every two years. Previously, the cycle for REALTOR® members was every four years, which allowed for license renewals to cover the cycle period. However, the cycle frequency was changed to two years, taking effect in January 2017.

There are a number of ways you can complete it. If your license renewal falls within the cycle period, taking a class to renew will satisfy the requirement. You can take it for free above or having completed an orientation or ethics class at this or another association. To make sure for certain if you've satisfied the requirement, however...

...you can check to see if you've completed the requirement online. By logging into your nar.realtor account, you can click on "My Account," and then on "Manage Account." Unde the "Other Links" view your education records (NRDS) and look for the following codes within the ethics cycle. (For example, for the 2019-2020 cycle, you would want to see COEC 2019C6 and COEC 2020C6. If you do not see either, you need to complete the Ethics requirement. If you see COEN 20191 or 20201, that means you are a new member and that signifies you have completed the requirement.)

You can also contact your association to find out if you've completed the requirement.

NAR Emeritus members do NOT have to complete the requirement. This only applies to NAR Emeritus, however. All other active REALTOR® members must complete the requirements if they have yet to do so.

When CDAR left CARETS and formed our NEW Member-centric Multiple Listing Service (MLS), CARETS Commercial listings ceased to exist.  We are pleased to be able to direct those affected to join Desert Area Commercial Information Exchange (DACIE).

CDAR is one of only 12 Associations in the country to have a fully-dedicated commercial resource like DACIE.  We are confident that our Members with commercial listings are in good hands with DACIE - as they're still in our hands.

For membership information and other questions please contact the CDAR office at 760.346.5637 or go to DACIE's website at http://www.desertareacie.com.
